Wildcats of the Week

Male – Tyler Cleaves – So. – Men's Golf: Tyler Cleaves finished tied 10th overall out of 120 golfers at the Wildcats for invitational of the year at the Vulcan Invitational. Cleaves finished at the top of the board in Par 4 scoring, with an overall score of -6, and finished top on the team in birdies with 10. His lowest scoring round was a 68 (-3) on Sunday. Cleaves helps the Wildcats finish 6th overall out of 18 teams.

Female - Kacey Affrunti - Gr. - Volleyball Kacey Affrunti led the Wildcats to their first victory of the 2022 season over Davis & Elkins last Saturday, September 3, in Pueblo, Colorado. The Wildcats were trailing 2-1 and clawed their way back to a 3-2 victory. In the match, Affrunti finished with 18 kills and a hitting percentage of .412. Affrunti finished the weekend with 37 kills on 70 attempts, for a percentage of .400.






Field Hockey


Maddy Rowland scored three times and added an assist as Wilmington Friends downs the Sanford Warriors 7-2






Severna Park was the Maryland Class 4A champion in 2021 and Pocomoke was the Class 1A champions. They will come to Delaware to meet our two state champion teams Delmar and Cape Henlopen. Last year Pocomoke played both the Wildcats and Vikings and were outscored a total of 19-0 between the two. Severna Park is a perennial powerhouse in Maryland and it will interesting to see how the Delaware teams stand up to the Falcons who are 1-1 on the new year.





Football


Chris Albero threw for three touchdown, ran for one, and kicked all 6 extra points as one of our three reigning state champions, the Auks from Archmere, beat Tatnall 42-0. All of the points were scored in the first half.









Soccer


Matt and Mike Capretto had a foot in all 4 goals as the Force of Wilmington Charter beat Caesar Rodney 4-0 in their opening day game. Matt had 2 goals and an assist with Mike scoring one and assisting on another.




Zain Ahktar scored three times and had one assist, Zayd Ahktar had a goal and two assists and Parmeet Singh had a goal and three assists as one of the two boys soccer returning state champions from Caravel beat Polytech 8-0.




Aiden Conover scores twice and adds an assist as the Ducks of Odessa win their opening 6-0 over the Glasgow Dragons.





Jacob Simpson scored two goals in St. Georges 6-1 win over McKean






Leonardo Alvarez-Cardoza with two goals for the Hodgson Silver Eagles in their 5-0 win against Christiana.







Volleyball



Catherine Cole led the Force of Wilmington Charter with 25 assists as they take their first match of the season 3 sets to 1 over Appoquinimink. Haden Helojoki from the Force led everyone with 12 kills

Anna Richardson led the Eagles with 13 kills as Smyrna wins in convincing fashion over Archmere in their first match of the year.





Congratulations to Morgan Hall, 2024, a St. Mark’s Spartan softball player (Varsity Catcher). She is Nationally ranked #30th, overall, by Extra Innings for 2024 softball players.

She also plays for the IntensityKOD Premier travel team.





The NIAAA (National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association) offers an award called the Quality Program Award. This award recognizes and commends excellence in the implementation and administration of outstanding high school athletic programs.


The NIAAA office has announced that they will recognize Delaware Military Academy as an Exemplary Athletic Program. The Delaware Military Academy athletic program has been identified as a 2022 recipient of the NIAAA Quality Program Award at the Exemplary Level, the highest obtainable level. DMA is one of three schools in the entire country to receive this recognition this year.





Indian River's Roman Keith has signed an NLI to play baseball with Salisbury University.

Ben Cordrey from Indian River has committed to play baseball for Queens University in Charlotte, NC





Congratulations to Katelyn Fitzgerald from the Conrad School of Sciences, who has been recognized as an All-American in the 500 Freestyle.
